Mills in the United States of America
This confrence we take a closer look at water powered mills of the United States. Four featured speakers who each have a unique perspective on mills and milling will be included in the conference.
Tony Shahan of Newlin Grist Mill and the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills Archives will be presenting on the forces that shaped the early history and development of water powered mills in America.
Harry Hopcroft of the Tide Mill institute will discuss the presence of tide mills in the US and the role of the Tide Mill Institute to study and preserve them.
Steve Bashore of George Washington’s Grist Mill and Distillery at Mount Vernon.
Mario Scalise of Bale Mill will each share unique aspects of their mill and milling operation, as well as how the necessary points for supporting the preservation of the craft of a miller are handled at their mills.
